Position:  Safety Coordinator

Reporting:  Reports directly to the President of Barnsco with a dotted line to KBP.

Purpose:  To help maintain a safe, OSHA-compliant, and productive environment to better support Barnsco (TX) employees. Maintain and help guide the safety culture at Barnsco (TX) toward an accident-free workplace.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Stay up to date with Barnsco (TX) new-hire onboarding computer-based safety training (EHS Insight/Process Map)
  • Push annual computer-based safety training for ALL Barnsco (TX) employees. 5 locations with 242 employees.
  • Perform PWMs (employee/department observations) MONTHLY at a minimum of 1 observation per location per month.
  • Coordinate ANNUAL, SEMI-ANNUAL, QUARTERLY, MONTHLY inspections for backflow and fire suppression systems @ Dallas (10419 Olympic & 2537 Willowbrook) & @ Fort Worth (5000 Blue Mound)
  • Coordinate fire extinguisher inspections (monthly, annual, 5-yr static) refills at all locations
  • Report and document any and all near-misses, accidents, property damage, etc into Process Map/EHS Insight for further review and submit Worker’s Compensation claims to BroadSpire via TPA (Process Map/EHS Insight); Oversee management of claims for injured Barnsco (TX) employees from date of loss through full return to work status
  • Address any notices of non-compliance, changes in policy, or corrective actions to be taken by any government agency (OSHA, EPA, Texas Railroad Commission, City, State, Federal law)
  • Provide strategic direction on improvements by analyzing and addressing root causes while reducing liability and cost.
  • Ensure proper egress and safety signage is always in all functional areas.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, government agencies, Kodiak safety, and HR.
  • Ensure proper guarding is in place and being used in all departments across Barnsco (TX)
  • Teaching supervisors, managers, and other leaders in the company about regulatory compliance related to their functional areas.
  • Help drive change in the safety culture at Barnsco (TX) through building relationships with employees and functional leaders.
  • Promoting and driving continuous improvement of systems that result in the reduction of accidents and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Presenting safety training sessions to the company and/or managers
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, federal, and state regulations
  • Handling risk assessments to gather information on safety issues.
  • Verifying that employees consistently follow safety protocols.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Can work independently, is well organized, and meets deadlines.
  • Has the ability to work on several projects or assignments simultaneously, switching back and forth during the day from one task or assignment to another.
  • 1-3 Years of experience in administrative work
  • Experience in the construction industry (Preferred)
  • OSHA 10/30 Construction or General Industry (Preferred)
  • Is a high-level communicator with proficient writing skills (email, notices, headlines)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel and Outlook
  • Communicates well with employees, customers, and/or vendors in-person or over-the-phone.
  • Strong problem solver with the ability to pivot and triage issues as they arise.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish (Preferred)
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • BS in Business Administration or Business Management or other 4-year degree (Preferred)
