Position:  Lead Mechanic

Reporting:   Reports directly to the Service Manager

Purpose:  To provide leadership and guidance necessary to manage Barnsco’s branch service center. The Lead Mechanic must maintain a highly functional department and will be directly responsible for mentoring and coaching and service center staff. As Lead Mechanic, this position will organize and schedule all service activities to enable Barnsco to provide the highest level of customer service to both internal and external customers. This position will maintain and monitor the training of all employees to offer dependable mechanical solutions at the highest level possible. He will ensure all service technicians possess and maintain a high level of competence to repair and maintain both customer and in-house equipment, such as company assets and equipment. The Lead Mechanic is responsible for the safety of the service technicians and support staff and the maintenance of a clean, safe working environment. This position must be a strong, hands-on problem solver with excellent organizational skills and possess the ability to prioritize daily activities and meet deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate leadership consistent with the Barnsco Core Values
• Provide guidance and mentoring to ensure the department provides the highest level of customer support
• Advise customers of necessary repair services including estimates of repair cost and time required as well as recommendations for preventive maintenance for their equipment
• Abide and uphold preventative maintenance programs for all company equipment including production equipment and rental fleet. Recommend replacement or additional equipment as needed
• Manage the assignment of all repair work to the appropriate service technicians
• Oversee the productivity and work quality of the department to ensure efficiency, competency, and customer satisfaction
• Review and approve all invoices from vendors as required
• Manage processing of all warranty claims and ensure claims are presented to the supplier
• Manage the maintenance of a clean, safe workplace and demand immediate reporting of all incidents to safety personnel and HR
• Oversee training of service technicians and support personnel to accomplish fast track improvement of Barnsco’s service centers’ ability to deliver superior customer service
• Perform repairs on both customer owned equipment as well as equipment in Barnsco’s rental fleet
• Perform other duties as required by the Service Manager
• Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems for machinery and equipment
• Inspect and repair forklifts, tractors, and trailers
• Perform all required maintenance inspections and safety checks as required
• Submit all paperwork on a timely basis
• Assist in the training process of new employees
• Ability to read and understand schematics
• Computer assisted troubleshooting experience

Required Education & Experience:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Bilingual – English/Spanish (Preferred)
• Strong decision making, problem solving, and team building skills
• Computer proficiency skills: Microsoft Office, Inventory Management Systems, Point of Rental
• Must have the ability to work overtime as needed, including Saturdays
• 5+ years of rental and service knowledge in construction equipment industry
