Position: Fleet Manager
Reporting: Reports directly to the Branch Operations Manager
Purpose: To provide leadership and guidance necessary to manage Barnsco’s dispatch department and delivery fleet.
The Fleet Manager will build and maintain a highly functional department with very competent Dispatcher, Load Planner and Delivery Drivers. The Fleet/Dispatch Manager is directly responsible for mentoring, coaching, and staffing personnel in the dispatch department. As Fleet/Dispatch Manager, this position will organize and schedule all dispatch activities to enable Barnsco to provide the highest level of customer service and safety to both internal and external customers. This position will maintain and monitor the training of all employees to provide safe and cost‐effective transportation of goods and equipment. The Fleet/Dispatch Manager will ensure all dispatch personnel possess and maintain a high level of competence with emphasis on superior customer service. The Fleet Manager is responsible for the safety of the Dispatcher, Load Planner and Drivers and the maintenance of a clean, safe working environment. This position must be a strong problem solver with excellent organizational skills and possess the ability to prioritize daily activities and meet deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide guidance and mentoring to ensure the department provides the highest level of efficiency and customer support
- Manage the maintenance of a clean, safe workplace and demand immediate reporting of all incidents to Safety Personnel and HR
- Manage the work of Dispatcher, Load Planner and Drivers to ensure daily transportation operations are efficiently accomplished with the highest level of safety and predictable excellence
- Manage and maintain capacity and resources for the dispatch department to meet the needs of our customers, internal and external
- Implement energy-saving practices such as route optimization, combining loads and minimizing idling
- Interface and cooperate with Sales to promote highest levels of customer satisfaction
- Collaborate with Sales and Management to address and resolve all customer concerns or complaints
- Collaborate with management/staff to formulate and implement policies, procedure, goals, and objectives
- Monitor operations to ensure that staff members fully comply with all policies, procedures, safety rules, environmental policies, and government regulations
- Promote safety by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and conducting regular safety briefings with drivers and staff
- Conduct investigations to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures
- Assist in establishing annual departmental operating budgets
- Manage the preventative maintenance program for all Barnsco delivery equipment
- Recommend replacement or addition of delivery equipment as needed
- Review and approve all invoices from outside haulers as required
- Manage the recruitment, hiring and onboarding of new dispatch personnel and drivers
- Provide high level accountability within the department and apply discipline with guidance of HR department
- Provide reports as requested by management
- Perform other duties as required by Branch Operations Manager
Required Education & Experience:
- 5+ years experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Must be proactive, detail oriented and self-motivated
- High School Diploma/GED required
