Small Engine Mechanic
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work safely at all times and adhere to applicable safety and company policies, procedures, and standards
- Perform minor to complex repairs and troubleshooting onsite and offsite with minimal supervision
- Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, test/verify proper operation of repairs
- Prepare and complete all job-related documents, work orders, and parts requests
- Utilize resources and databases to obtain information and provide accurate parts and warranty requests
- Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
- Consistently maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Maintain vehicle inspection records and follow company and DOT guidelines regarding vehicle usage
- Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
- Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order
- Communicate work order progress to customer as needed, maintain clear customer records
- Maintain open communication with internal team including Service Coordinator and Service Manager
- Complete assigned jobs and tasks within established timeframes and within the reasonable expectations of Service Manager
- Project professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to lend expertise on specific repairs to less experienced Mechanics
- Work overtime as required by workload
- Complete all assigned Technician training courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
- Perform other duties as assigned
Technical/Mechanical Skills:
- Preferred candidates should have at least 2 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing various types of commercial concrete equipment, or equivalent experience in a similar field with a strong technical foundation that is transferrable across various equipment types.
- Candidates with at least 2 years of other technical experience are encouraged, assuming that candidate also has a foundation in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting that will support the business needs.
- Candidates must have a basic understanding of safe work procedures and practices.
- Advanced knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience performing hydraulic, transmission, engine, and electrical repairs
- Proficiency with computer software, related hardware, and basic knowledge of machine electronic systems.
- Basic diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and plan for additional resources
- Operation and control skills of equipment
- Equipment selection skills and experience to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
- Excellent customer services skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally in writing
- Ability to operate a forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time constraining circumstances
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
- Ability to make precise movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble small objects
Education and Experience:
- At least one-year small engine or light equipment experience required; 2 or more years preferred.
- Record of factory, vocational, or mechanic training is a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Additional Requirements:
- Must own required tools to perform repairs
- Valid Driver’s license required
- Must have a safe driving record
- Willingness to attend out-of-state training courses with proper notice and scheduling
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 lb
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Must be able to move objects, and use core muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet to climb up and down ladders or equipment
- Routinely react to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
Work Environment:
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
- Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times
- May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include heat, humidity, cold, and inclement weather
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
- Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
