Dispatch Manager

Purpose:

Manage detailing department and ensure all work assigned to team is properly detailed and coordinated with customers.  Develop a high level of competence with Barnsco’s detailing system (RebarCAD or Microstation) and innovative detailing practices. Develop a total understanding of the Barnsco’s business system as it relates to detailing and managing costs and contractual requirements. Detail large complex projects and manage contractual issues relating to assigned projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate conduct and leadership consistent with Barnsco’s vision and core values.
  • Assign all work to appropriate detailers so that it is done in an efficient manner and in accordance with customers’ needs.
  • Oversee the productivity and work quality of the detailers to ensure efficiency and accuracy are prioritized.
  • Manage the assignment of detailing to outside vendors so that high quality purchased detailing is obtained at fair rates and ensure that invoices are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Manage the contacts between detailers and customers so that accurate information regarding delivery requirements is always at hand and so that problems can be resolved or avoided.
  • Review all extras and changes to contracts being detailed in house or by outside vendors; coordinate with sales personnel so that customers are properly advised and billed in accordance with such changes.
  • Review all customer back-charges on contracts detailed in house or by outside vendors; coordinate with sales personnel so that fair and reasonable settlements can be negotiated and so that similar problems do not repeat.
  • Manage the performance appraisal process and recommend appropriate salary adjustments as needed for all detailing personnel.
  • Manage the recruitment, hiring, orientation and training of new detailer employees and support personnel.
  • Keep apprised of any technological developments in detailing methodology and equipment, and make appropriate recommendations to management so Barnsco can detail as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Responsible for making sure outstanding service is taking place and all efforts are taken to satisfy customer needs at all levels, phone calls, meetings and job sites.
  • Ability to interact with coworkers and customers in a positive manner, follow directions and work rules and accept constructive feedback required in order to offer the best customer service possible.
  • Detail accessories, mesh, couplers and dowel bars and prepare material lists as required.
  • Develop ability to enter all orders in Barnsco’s business system and prepare reports to assist in management of project(s).
  • Enter all drawings for submission into drawing tracking system.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of CRSI and the Manual of Standard Practice.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Branch Manager. 
  • Independently detail and coordinate complex projects.
  • Must meet Barnsco’s attendance standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Vocational certificate in CAD design/drafting issued from an accredited school or college or equivalent combination of training and work experience
  • At least ten years of experience as a rebar detailer or equivalent industry experience with at least  six year’s experience with the Barnsco Texas detailing system (Rebar CAD) or other CAD based detailing system
  • At least three years of experience as a supervisor of detailers
  • Experience in customer relations and resolving problems or disputes
  • Effective skills in communication, motivation, performance evaluation and customer service
  • A basic knowledge of contract law, standard business practices and human relations
  • Working knowledge of industry reference material (i.e. CRSI and ACI)
  • Ability to work as a team member on large projects with an aptitude for problem solving
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Able to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities
  • Effective verbal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications & Education:

Two year technical degree from accredited school or college.

Special Demands:

  • Work schedule may include hours beyond the normal business day
  • Occasional travel may be required, including overnight stay
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding personnel situations and certain customer and management information.
